September 21, 1941 - June 1, 2012 Husband, Father, Brother - a very special and stubborn Serbian-Canadian, David lived life to the last.Seeking freedom, at the age of 19, David escaped his native Yugoslavia and made his way to Canada in 1962. Here he built his family and future, embracing his new home, never forgetting his Serbian roots. David, raised by his grandparents, was taught the importance of family. Over the years, David worked hard and prospered. While he was able to enjoy many of his passions, such as hunting, hiking and world travel, there was much more to do when cancer decided differently. He is lovingly survived by his brother Miso, son Milan (Sandra) and their children Mica, Mila daughter Milena (Jesse Mathiesen) and their son, James; his son, Dane, and beloved life partner, Lorraine. Predeceased buy his sister Dusanka. An outstanding cook, David always had a seat at the Sunday dinner table for family and those who wanted to have lively conversation and copious amounts of food. He will be sadly missed by those who had the fortune of being welcomed into his home, friends both old and new. A special thank you to Eagle Ridge Hospital C2B Ward & Crossroads Hospice who provided great care and compassion in the final stage of David's life. In David's memory, live life, walk in the woods, be a good friend and treasure the community of family. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
