PAUL PHILLIPS born in Cheltenham, Wales Jan. 14, 1933, died at his Fernwood home May 17, 2012. Paul lived a long and diverse life, full of adventures. He immigrated to British Columbia around 1969 becoming a founding member of food co-ops in Vancouver and Victoria and traveling around B.C., often with step-daughter Sylvia in tow, to promote the co-op movement. Paul founded and was involved in numerous community initiatives including the Amor De Cosmos Food Co-op, Fed-Up Food Co-op, Neighbourhood Improvement Program, Neighbour-Aiders, Springridge Housing Co-op, the first recycling centre in Victoria, Fernwood Solar Farm, and the Fernwood Community Association. An avid musician, recycler, housing activist and gardener he was known for his laughter, desire to help others and his passion for the community. He is survived by daughters Olwen and Sylvia (grandchildren Beau, Hannah and Leandro), dear friends Cheryl Phillips, Lotus Johnson and Phyllis Pacheco, and many others who he helped and worked with over the years and who will miss his eccentricity and zest for life.
