LIMER, Isabel Constance (nee Burkmar)
Born in Victoria on December 1, 1932, died peacefully at Victoria General Hospital on September 4, 2021. The family would like to thank the staff on 6DNorth for taking such good care of Mom in her last days. She leaves her loving family to cherish her memory: Daughters Kathryn (David), Penny and Diana (Garry); Grandchildren Jennifer (Ross), Megan (Stu), John, Cole and Andrew; Great-grandchildren Lauren, Brynn, Jack and Hannah. Predeceased by her sons John (1980) and Tom (2006) and her great-granddaughter Emily (2011). Her faith was tested many times but never broken. Isabel was also a beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, in particular Mary Ann, Rebecca and Nathan.
Isabel was the youngest of the Burkmar daughters. She was raised in Victoria and Cowichan Station. Liz, as she was sometimes known, was the last remaining of the sisters and brothers-in-law. She missed them and looked forward to seeing them and her parents in heaven.
Our Mom was a unique individual who married young and had five children before striking out and seeking her own path in life. She lived in Vernon and Vancouver during this phase of her life. Things were not always easy and she suffered many setbacks but she was always ready to hear a good joke or to dance and sing, especially to an Elvis classic! Her best friend, Rosetta, was her “partner in crime” during many adventures.
A caring soul who loved children, Mom first managed a day care centre and later worked as a volunteer coordinator at Holy Family Hospital. She was active in her church work, teaching Sunday School and participating in prison visits. Her activities were curtailed in the last few years as she grew increasingly frail but she did say she was going to Heaven with attitude…and we have faith that she did!
Due to Covid restrictions, a private celebration of life will be held in the future. Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson Society of BC.
