It is with deep sadness that we share that Kieran passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday March 2nd, 2021.
Kieran was a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. Those who knew him as a bright and inquisitive boy will no doubt remember his beaming smile and his passion for sharing facts. Anything you didn’t know about the various tree frogs of South America or the Latin names of the plants in your garden, Kieran could tell you.
That infectious enthusiasm and unquenchable curiosity remained unchanged throughout Kieran’s life. Everything he did, he did with his whole heart, whether it was cooking delicious food, working as a “commodity relocation engineer,” fixing up his trucks, or fulfilling his dream of working for the Coast Guard. We have many happy memories of Kieran explaining - at length - assorted mechanical engineering and buoy tending issues, often with the help of a white board. He displayed just as much zeal in the kitchen, where his culinary talents produced some particularly legendary bolognese sauce over the years in addition to many other memorable meals.
Kieran had a gift for retaining information and could quote entire scenes from favourite movies without breaking a sweat. He also had a penchant for bursting into song and would cleverly re-invent lyrics on the spot to suit the situation at hand. Friends from his furniture moving days regularly enjoyed hearing him belt out “Hooked on the Ceiling,” his take on the Blue Swede hit. Wherever he went, whatever he did, Kieran’s undeniable spark brought warmth and joy to everyone he knew. His death, which has come far too soon, leaves a hole in all our hearts.
Kieran is survived by his parents Peter and Ellen, his brother Jacob, his sisters Hannah, Sive, and Daley, his brother-in-law Lukas, his grandmother Lois, his aunts (Susan Johnson, Joy, Pam, Rizza, Colleen, Susan Witiuk, Anne, Mary), his uncles (Chris, Dick, Jim, Larry), many cousins, his dear friends Matt, Justin, and Mike, his Coast Guard crewmates, and a wide network of extended family and friends.
We appreciate that many people will want to be a part of mourning Kieran’s death and celebrating his life. A funeral service will be held via livestream on Saturday March 13th at 11 AM PST. Anyone wishing to join us can do so by visiting www.lutheranvictoria.ca and following the livestream link on the home page. A recording will also be made available for those unable to tune in live.
Kieran possessed an incredible generosity of spirit. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to honour his memory is invited to make a donation to any of the the following organizations, which Kieran either actively supported during his life or would have been a fan of based on the nature of their work.
