Ian (John) ALEXANDER - Proud Scotsman (then Canadian) and passionate fisherman – Ian left local waters on the morning of January 30/21 – he passed away at home. Ian was a trooper throughout his illness - pretty much to the end he loved to go to the Legion and have a pint and visit friends there – he wasn’t baking snacks anymore but he would buy chips and peanuts and distribute them to folks – he loved to feed people!
Ian came to Canada in 1986 and never looked back – he became a Canadian citizen in 1991 and was proud to be one though he would remind people that ultimately his roots were Scottish. Ian loved fishing and did so at every opportunity which provided many seafood feasts in our household (and others – remember he loved to feed people!). His other passion was for the Legion and activities there – acting as an Executive member for a number of years, singing performances in the Follies, and marching in the Remembrance Day Parade and other Colour Party events.
My huge thanks to Dr Putland, Dr Berrang, Dr Saltman, the nurses, OT’s, CHW’s and also the Hospice nurses for your compassion and caring. Also thank you to friends and family for their support - particularly my Sis over this last week.
There will be no celebration event as per Ian’s wishes.
I miss you a whole bunch Ian but the memories are with me to hold on to – it was quite the journey …
