Richard (Dick) Lopeter
March 6, 1929 - January 23, 2021
Richard will be lovingly remembered by his son David (Misha); daughter Linda (Doug); grandchildren: Michele, Louise (Steffen), Evan and Rachel (Ryan); great-grandchildren: Stacy and Leo; sister Nellie (Leland) Weber; as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by wife Joan, son Douglas (Ann), and brothers Ed and Lloyd. Richard was born and raised in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. He joined the Navy at 18 yrs of age and sailed away to see the world. He was eventually posted to Victoria (CFB Esquimalt). It was there he met and married the love of his life, Joan. He served in the Korean War as a Navigational Radar Plotter and was promoted up the ranks in a very short time to CPO 2nd class. He left the Navy and joined the Oak Bay Police Force where he had a rewarding 34 yr. career, spending several years as Detective and helping to bring the Neighbourhood Watch program to Oak Bay. He was a talented builder, constructing their first home in Oak Bay and the family cabin at Lake Cowichan. Richard enjoyed retirement: swimming, dancing, travelling and spending time with family. He will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, putting family first and being there when we needed him. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Veterans Health Centre where he enjoyed many afternoons. (Service to be held at a later date) In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Royal Canadian Legion.
