Donna Marie Kelly (November 9th, 1941-September 30, 2019)
Donna dedicated her life to art through her own works, History in Art and educating others. Starting at OCA in Toronto (now OCAD) in 1960, her education ultimately took her to the University of Victoria (BFA, MA) and the University of York, England for doctoral studies. Her visual arts friends described Donna as "the most skilled draftsman" they had ever seen. Yet in her quest to perfect her skills, Donna said she felt she had come close to creating a good drawing only once.
Donna and her lifelong friend, Marian Matson, died within 45 days of each other. All of the girls -- Kirsty, Alex, Robbie and Tobyn -- are pleased that neither of "The Moms" had to be without the other for long. Likewise, the thought that Donna and the love of her life, Avrum, have found each other again after almost 40 years makes her death the smallest bit more bearable.
Donna, Mom, Grama will be missed by many: daughters Christine "Kirsty" Duff (Andrew, Olivia and Curtis Gibbs), Roberta "Robbie" Duff (Ben Armstrong), nephew Jonathan Fitzgerald (Krysten), Steve Posluns (Kim, Kirsten, Ashley and Cole) and friends and colleagues from the arts community too numerous to mention.
A very special thank you to Judy Boland and Lesley Jessop for being there and the incredible people at Jubilee hospice for all of their care and comfort.
If desired, please consider making a donation in Donna's name to Royal Jubilee Hospice, Victoria, B.C.
