Dr. Sid E Sheard passed peacefully with family by his side on Tuesday April 16, 2019 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. He was born in Vancouver, BC where he grew up with his two sisters, Marion and Joan, and spent most of his life. His love of sport and healthy living lead him to a brief stint as a sports reporter and eventually to his career as a chiropractor. He attended Logan Chiropractic College in St Louis, MO, continued to complete a post-graduate fellowship in radiology and began his practice in Burnaby, BC. During his 40-year career Dr. Sheard treated patients of all walks of life and was a pioneer in the field of sports chiropractic, serving as the team chiropractor for the Vancouver Canucks for 30 years, the longest serving member of the medical staff. He was an educator and mentor to a generation of chiropractors and received several awards from the profession as a pioneer and builder for the field of chiropractic.
Sid had a deep-rooted connection with family and friends which has left an unforgettable impact. Those who knew him will always remember his smiling face, generous nature and clever humour. He had the amazing ability to care about everyone in a way that made them feel unique and special. Sid was also a passionate golfer. More than a sport, for Sid golf was a community and a way of life. In his final months, he could still be found practicing on the putting green and in his final days he watched the Master’s tournament from his hospital bed with loved ones at his side.
He is survived by his two daughters Sandra and Renee from his marriage to Lois Adams. He also leaves behind his life partner Joan Hamilton and her children along with several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was loved deeply by all.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 28th, 2019 at the Vancouver Golf Club between 6pm to 9pm. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Canuck Place www.canuckplace.org .
