In 1992 I began a new career as an Esthetician. Marian was one of my first regular clients. Over the past 26 years we spent 11/2-2 hrs together while Marian enjoyed wraps and facials. Over this time I came to look forward to conversation and Marian's many stories. She spoke of her childhood, her education, her job as a legal secretary, her retirement trips to San Diego with Walter and all that golfing. Her pride and joys were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She spoke of the antics and fun she and her friends at the Pro Pats Legion enjoyed. I remember meeting Norman when Marian bought him a gift of a pedicure. I loved going with my husband to celebrate Marian's 90th Birthday, and that she got up and jived with Bill!
Marian was only a couple of years older than my mother and our conversations on current affairs, or history gave me a sense of communicating with my mothers generation. What an intelligent and open minded woman she was! Her memory surpassed mine on every subject. Very humbling. I still have her " A Cookbook for my Friends" 2001. I will cook one of her recipes, the 'Mini Rum Balls' for her Birthdate.
Marian made me laugh with her humour, her pragmatism and of course her jokes! I chuckled at her jokes over the years, amazed that she rembered so many. Most with a Nun or Priest in them. One of Marian's guilty pleasures.
I miss her already. Am so glad Marian and I had a good visit in December for her last facial. I saw no hint of the cancer taking hold. She was gracious for our last visit and phone call. My condolences to all of Marian's family. How lucky you were to have such a woman as the Matriarch of the Greenway's! Sincerely Jan
