Saturday, April 6, 2019Des Corry was a action guy. He loved sports. He loved to play them and to coach them. If you can, name a game sport that he has not played. Des was well liked and respected amongst his peers. If he ever vaunted about his athletic prowess, no worries, he could back it up. Des was also a great family man. He loved his Monica and his kids. Did I mention his writing? He not only wrote a book, he had it published He gave a good historical account of world champion boxer from Vancouver, Jimmy McLarnin. The heart and soul he put into writing the book is as much a story as the book itself. Well done Des. Des will be remembered and missed. Heartfelt condolences go out to you Monica from Brian and Donna. The heart and soul he put into writing the book is as much a story as the book itself.

Thursday, February 28, 2019Des was a good friend over many years. We first met in Merritt in the early 1970s, and over the years exchanged many rugby stories, including the famous one about Des and his "little red shorts". Latterly we would go out to Langford to watch the Mens or Women's 7s, or to James Bay AA, and Des would always regale people (especially in the bar at James Bay) with his early stories of playing lacrosse in Victoria. Apart from his love of sports, he was a well-read gentleman who maintained a zest for life. The hip injuries that finally brought him to earth made him uncharacteristically immobile, to his great frustration. Now he is free.

Wednesday, February 27, 2019Condolences to the family. I am sorry to hear of Des' death. I first met him at Union College UBC where we shared a great friendship which we maintained until his illness. Des & I boxed together & had many a good laugh. Our relationship lessened when I went to Jamaica & he began teaching on the mainland. Nonetheless, our friendship was rekindled when we both returned to Victoria. I think his book about Jimmie McLaren is an outstanding work, well researched. We shared an interest in Rugby & enjoyed watching matches together here in Victoria. Des was a fine man. I rejoice in having him as my friend . I shall miss him!

Friday, February 22, 2019Condolences to Monica and all the family. I enjoyed knowing Des ( and Monica) during my time of near seven years, as Anglican Priest at All Saints in View Royal. As a warden of the parish for a time we had many discussions. We also enjoyed talking about books and travels among other topics, and had several lunches over the years. Good wishes to the Monica and the family in the future.
