Obituary of Noreen LEE

Noreen (Chan Kent) Lee, June 24, 1924-January 10, 2019 passed away peacefully at home surrounded eternally by the love of her family.  The love of her life, husband Duncan passed away in 2014.  She is survived by her immediate family, Pat (Dan), Laura (Keith), Grandchildren: Brandon (Lin), Bryan (Jessica) and Alex.  Great Grandchildren: Sofie, Serena and Olive.

Predeceased by her brothers Robert (Lesley), Wellington, Joe, Bunny and sister Louise (Bob) and survived by her sisters Mary, Doris, Bessie (Eddie), Kay, Suzy, and her brothers, Ernie (Yvonne), Sonny and Peter (Rosabelle).

Noreen was born in Victoria to Charles and Toy Chan-Kent, the seventh oldest child of fourteen.   She eventually moved to Vancouver and worked as a secretary/book-keeper for a small wholesale import company.

Her life changed when she met Duncan on a blind date at "The Cave".    They shared a long-distance romance as Duncan would travel from Victoria to see her and "Norts" would fearlessly drive in the dead of night to pick up her dashing beau from the old CPR terminal.

After a long five-year courtship, they married in 1951. Noreen’s marriage produced two daughters, and a son (Melvin) who sadly passed away as a "preemie".

She helped Duncan with his greenhouse business and would later work for K-Mart in the lingerie department.   After retiring from working, Noreen took up golf as both she and Duncan joined the Gorge Vale Golf Club.   She also was an active member of St. Aidan's United Church.

Noreen delighted in her 3 great grandchildren. She also enjoyed long walks around her home, bridge, mah jong, and listening to audiobooks.

Though her sight was challenged, it didn't prevent her from insisting on doing her own cooking, cleaning and gardening.

She will be remembered as the light of our lives and her spark will continue in all those lives, she touched.

A celebration of Noreen’s life is being planned for late Spring for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
