Marinus W. (Bill) DeVos succumbed to cancer on Sunday, Nov 25th he was surrounded by his family.
Bill was a loving father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather and a friend to everyone who knew him.
He will be forever missed by Martha the love of his life of 58 years and his children Joy (Ron), Ashely (Paul), his 4 grandchildren; Sonja (Kyle) Darren (Freya), Kimberly(Jon) and Sadie and one great-grandchild, Madison. Bill was predeceased by his son Marvin (2010).
Bill was born in Holland and immigrated to Canada in 1953.
Bill began his career in Calgary at Alberta Spuds in the agriculture industry- he then moved his family to Vauxhall where he managed Pak-Wel Produce Ltd. Bill decided to try his hand at greenhouses in Redcliff for a few years growing cucumbers and tomatoes. The family moved to Edmonton in 1980 where he soon became the general manager of Edmonton Potato Growers. In 1995 Bill started his own business - DeVos Brokers and Consultant Inc. as a seed potato broker. Bill and Martha moved to Vancouver Island in 2003 where he continued to do consulting until he was 70 years old. Bill was well respected in the potato industry for his integrity and honesty and known in the potato industry as the “Potato Man”
Bill had an intense love of spending time with family, telling “Opa Jokes”, cycling and playing table tennis.
