Obituary of Avery KNUDSON

It is with profound sadness and heartbreak we share the passing of our beautiful son.

True to his stoic nature, Avery left us unassumingly just past midnight on October 9, 2018 succumbing to the cancer that had developed in his brain. The last months of his 21 years were beyond what any person should ever have to endure, yet somehow he managed to face each day with unwavering bravery and strength that was truly humbling. He wanted to be remembered for who he was, not for the cancer, and never wanted his loved ones to carry his burden. Incredibly, and to everyone’s delight, Avery maintained his signature sass and wit delivering out of the blue remarks right through his last days. To be a part of his life was truly a privilege.

Predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Larry Knudson, Avery is survived by his mother Samantha Knudson and step-father Tomasz Krol of Victoria BC, along with his father Gregory Bishop, step-mother Mary Jane of Edmonton AB; half-sisters Gabriella and Ariel; step-sisters Jodell and Golden; grandparents Bob & Bunny Crawshaw, Colleen Ireland, Kazimierz & Zofia Krol, Lynne & Stacy Bishop; aunts and uncles Jessica (Joseph), Scott (Gail), Michael, Carrie, Nicki (Sebastien), Tiffany (Todd), Lisa (Delton), Christa (Albert), James (Janette), Melanie (Mac); cousins Cassidy, Emily, Maddisyn, Benjamin, Livia, Grace, Julia, Teah, Samuel, Nathaniel, Joshua, Ella, Jase, Katie, Courtney, Jackson, Holden, Weston, Zachary, Parley, Dexter, Vila, Maxwell, Collins, Brock, Poppy, London, Toby, Olive, Cambria, Dean, Lucy, and Alice.

In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by an incredible group of close friends he considered family: his life-long best friend Kai Dylan Andrews, girlfriend Olivia Hardman, Joe Barton, Cole Everden, Nolan Fitzgerald, Jeromy Kixmöller-Gosley, Jessica Manness, Taran Parks, Kalen Paul, Marshall Roddick, Mak Rokic, Kane Ruthven, Aidan Sandmark, Matthew Schille, Nicolas Senneville, Trevor Smith, Hannah Stemp, Chris Warren, Anastasia Andrews, Cheryl Cawston, Ami Cheli, Beth & Yoshiaki Konomoto, Chris Jubien, Andy Mavretic, Harjog & Ian McElmoyle, Michael Schmidt, Jari Vataja, Greg Wright, and too many more to list.  It really does take a village.  He was so loved.

Our heartfelt thanks to the Knudson family (Don, Deb, Daren, Dean, Katherine, Tucker and Myla); everyone at the BC Cancer Agency, in particular Drs. Andrew Attwell and Daniel Glick; Mike, Amanda and the crew at the Old Spaghetti Factory; Canadian Red Cross; Community Health Services; and Patricia Fabbro with the Ministry of Social Development. Our utmost gratitude to RN Katie and all of the staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital, 8-South, for keeping our son comfortable and cared for in his final days, and for putting up with our small army of visitors.  It made all the difference.
