Obituary of Kari COSTELLO

It is with profound sadness that we share the loss of our beloved daughter and sister Kari Maureen Costello in Victoria, B.C. on Thursday, September 27 at age 52 due to complications arising from Type 1 diabetes, a disease that afflicted Kari since her late teens. Kari was born and raised in Calgary, enjoyed family vacations and was active in dance, music and sport pursuits. She earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Calgary in 1988. After a summer of travel, Kari started a 30-year career as an accountant, achieving her Chartered Accountant designation with Deloitte & Touche in 1992. She most recently had a long tenure as a Manager with the B.C. Ministry of Finance in Victoria. Kari battled and overcame a variety of complications from her diabetes and earlier this year was the recipient of a kidney transplant at the St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver which gave her a new lease on life. The family would like to thank Doctors Miller and Walton for their many years of care. The common denominator in Kari’s journey through life was her love of animals, particularly cats. Even on vacations to sun destinations, Kari always brought along some cat treats to share with local felines and was described by fellow travellers as the Mother Teresa to cats for her generosity. She will be missed by her Burmese cat, Monkey. Kari is survived by her mother Marion Reesor (Tom Reesor - Predeceased), father Barry (Laurie) Costello, brothers Michael and Brian (Terri) Costello, an extended family, a network of current and former co-workers with the B.C. Ministry of Finance and friends. If desired, donations can be made to charities supporting the fight against diabetes and kidney disease or to aid animal welfare.
