Our dear son Roshi is now on his way to the spiritual world. We have just sat vigil for three days at Roshi’s side since his passing on Sunday, September 9. We were joined by our son, Raven, his partner, Lisa, and Roshi’s girlfriend, Jasmine. It has been a powerful and transformative time for all of us, and we believe Roshi has released the burdens he carried during his time in this earthly world. We are deeply grateful to our good friend Kathy Brunetta, and to Patricia and Steve Klap for the guidance and support they gave us when they joined us in our vigil with Roshi. We are also grateful for the outpouring of love and support from family, our friends and from the many who make up Roshi’s large community of friends, through texts, emails, phone calls, and Facebook. We felt your love.
We invite you to join us for the final stage of Roshi’s vigil on Thursday, September 13 from 11 am to 1 pm in the chapel at Royal Oak Burial Park 4673 Falaise Drive, Victoria. Come for all or part of the time to say farewell to our playful, creative, introspective, warm and loving son and friend. You may bring tokens or poems of a biodegradable nature to include in his casket if you wish. We would welcome flowers from your garden and soft instruments playing if that is your gift while you visit Roshi. Arrive knowing there will likely be an open casket. Please offer car rides to others who do not drive, but who wish to attend.
We also invite you to a gravesite ceremony on Thursday, September 20 at 2 pm. Roshi will be buried in a green burial site at the edge of the forest in Royal Oak Burial Park. After burial the area is planted with native plants and eventually nature will return it to the forest.
Please gather in your cars at 2 pm just inside the gates of the Royal Oak Burial Park, 4673 Falaise Drive. We will be led by a hearse to the burial site. Please dress warmly for the weather as we will be outside and standing for the ceremony. A handful of chairs will be placed for those who cannot stand for long periods. Bring an umbrella if needed and a blanket if you think you would like to sit on the ground. There will be a time to write messages of love or a farewell on Roshi’s casket during the ceremony. Please car-pool and share rides with non-drivers if you can.
After the ceremony by the forest gravesite, you are invited to Sult Pierogi Bar at 609 Yates where Roshi is buying the first round. Roshi was a cook at Sult over the past few years and it is owned and operated by Roshi’s good friend Troy. We will have some of Roshi’s art displayed at Sult. Please bring any of Roshi’s art you may have to the restaurant if you would like to share it for the evening.
Please share this message with anyone you think would like to come to either event. We would like to ensure everyone who wants to come, knows. We also know many of you will not be able to come to either event because of distance or other reasons. Please join us through your hearts by lighting a candle on Thursday, September 20 at 2 pm PST.
