Harry Doherty, age 80, died in Victoria, BC, on Monday, June 25, 2018 after a battle with aggressive lymphoma.
Born on November 17, 1937 in Derry, Northern Ireland, he moved to Duncan, BC for a teaching position in 1969, before settling in Victoria.
Loving Father of Janet, Karen (James) and Brian (Jennifer). Former spouse and co-parent with Betty. Proud grandpa of Gavin, Kieran, Fiona and Maisie.
Survived by brothers Liam (Anne), John (Liz) and Dan (Anne), in Ireland, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.
Harry loved education and was an avid reader and collector of books. His appreciation for being in nature took him on many adventures camping and fishing. One of his favorite seasons in his life was when he had the opportunity to fly, piloting his own Cessna plane for short trips in the 1970s. He continued to fly for recreation even into his late 60s.
You were most fortunate if you caught Harry in storytelling mode, often recounting anecdotes of living on the farm as a young boy in Ireland. Harry enjoyed lively conversation in good company, and vacationing in the sun.
A celebration of Harry’s Life took place at St. Philip’s Church on June 29, 2018.
