A Certified Death Certificate is necessary before anything can be done. A death certificate can be obtained through the Funeral Director. Most local agencies will take a photocopy of the original death certificate and certify it as a true copy of the original. In cases where out of Province matters need to be taken care of or if there are life insurance policies to claim photocopies are typically not acceptable. It is a good idea to ask for 2 original death certificates if either of these two scenarios present themselves.
