Joy (Storey) Guerzoni née Medici, of Victoria, British Columbia passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 5, 2018. Joy is survived by her husband Stefano, her daughters Daniela (Barry) and Sara (Peter), her sister, Jeanne Pelletier of Nanaimo, family in Italy, and many beloved nieces and nephews across Canada. Joy lived her early years at the foothills of Garibaldi (Whistler) and her formative years on the West Coast of Vancouver Island and Victoria. As a teenager instead of starting a hope chest, as was the custom in those days, she began saving for a "working trip" around the world. Her ambition saw her living in cities in Eastern Canada, Mexico, London, Geneva, Sassari and Rome.

On her second trip to Italy she met the love of her life, Stefano and they married and had two beautiful daughters, Daniela and Sara. In 1970 she brought her family to her home in Victoria (God's country she called it).

Joy was a keen gardener as well as a great animal and wildlife lover. When she saw the Olde England Inn properties were infested with feral cats she rescued them, had them spayed and adopted them one by one, many times ending up keeping them herself; thus sparing the entire neighbourhood the nuisance of a feral cat invasion.

Joy had a passionate thirst for knowledge and a deep love of history and literature, a love which she passed on to both of her daughters.

“I have sometimes dreamt ... that when the Day of Judgment dawns and the great conquerors and lawyers and statesmen come to receive their rewards -- their crowns, their laurels, their names carved indelibly upon imperishable marble -- the Almighty will turn to Peter and will say, not without a certain envy when He sees us coming with our books under our arms, "Look, these need no reward. We have nothing to give them here. They have loved reading.” ― Virginia Woolf.

No funeral service by request.
